Online Dating: Why Don’t People Disclose Basic Information About Themselves?

Online Dating: Why Don't People Disclose Basic Information About Themselves?

In online dating, people may not disclose basic information about themselves because they are too eager to get past the process of filling out their online dating profiles.

They may not want to spend much time on this part at all.

They may want to get it over with as quickly as possible so that they can move on to browsing through online dating profiles and exploring the online dating site.

People who do not disclose basic information about themselves because they are in a hurry may tell themselves that they will come back and do it.

They may tell themselves that as soon as they are done with exploring the online dating site and maybe even sending some interest signals or messages to some members, they will come back and input that basic information about themselves.

However, once they skip past a lot of this basic information and get through setting up their online dating profiles, they may get lost in searching or exploration of the online dating site.

As a result, they forget to come back to fill out that basic information about themselves and thereby disclose it.

This is something that is not uncommon with people who newly join an online dating site.

They may simply be too eager to get through the sign-up process.

Another reason why people don’t disclose basic information about themselves is because they may just be testing out the online dating site.

In other words, they may not have wholeheartedly joined the online dating site.

They may have merely joined out of curiosity.

They may actually already be members of another online dating site that they actively using.

However, they may have heard about this particular online dating website and created a quick online dating profile because they are curious about it.

They may want to compare this particular online dating site to the one that they are actively using.

Being that they have to go through the process of completing their online dating profile before they can do more exploration of the online dating site, they do the bare minimum.

As a result, they leave out quite a bit of information.

They may not care that much that they didn’t disclose basic information about themselves because they may believe that they just want to test the online dating site and get a feel for it.

Hence, they may not really feel it necessary to disclose all that basic information about themselves.

After all, there is a strong likelihood that they aren’t even going to end up using this particular online dating site anyway.

In other words, they will most likely stick with the online dating site that they are currently using.

So, to them, it would make no sense to put out all the time and effort to disclose basic information about themselves.

Now, if they happen to surf through the online dating site and like it, they may decide to come back to it at some future date and use it.

They may even decide to delete their online dating profile on the other online dating site and start using this particular online dating site instead.

If they get to this point, they may strongly consider disclosing basic information about themselves, but for now, they are merely passing through.

People also don’t disclose basic information about themselves because they may be uneasy about online dating in general.

They may have never done it before and haven’t fully committed to it.

They may have only joined the online dating site so as to get a general understanding of what it is like.

Perhaps they were told about online dating by a friend, family member or work colleague.

However, they may not be completely convinced that they actually want to try out online dating.

Hence, they join an online dating site and avoid disclosing basic information about themselves because they are simply too uncomfortable to do so and are unsure about whether they even want to give online dating a real try.
