It would be better not to do background checks or google a guy’s name when you meet him online too prematurely.
If you are worried about your safety, then you should ensure that you take some time to get to know this guy before choosing to meet him in real life.
If you were to do a background check or google his name too prematurely, you may end up coming across information that may or may not be accurate or true to the person that he is today.
What you find could lead you to make a judgment on the guy very prematurely?
Are there things that you have done in your past that you regret?
Is there information out there in the online space about you that may actually not be representative of who you truly are?
Are there things that you have done in your past, perhaps when you were younger and more naive that you would rather people not judge you for, being that you are now older and wiser?
You should put yourself in the shoes of a guy that you are thinking about doing a background check on or whose name you want to google.
Are there some things that people have said about you online that are simply untrue?
There is only so much information about yourself that you can control when it comes to the online space.
Hence, if you were to google a guy’s name when you meet him online and discover false information, you would really have no idea whether that information is true or false.
How could you?
You never actually gave yourself a chance to get to know this guy better.
Hence, it is best that you spend a good amount of time getting to know this guy before choosing to do a background check or googling his name.
There is nothing necessarily wrong with doing a background check on a guy that you met online or googling his name.
It is just best that you spend some quality time getting to know him first.
Again, if you are worried about your safety, you do not have to meet this guy in the real world until you feel ready to do so.
If you interact with this guy to the point where you feel that he is actually someone that you would like to meet in the real world, then it is okay for you to do a background check or google his name, if doing that will make you feel more comfortable or safer about meeting him in person.
However, if you do a background check on him or google his name, make sure that you also use what you have learned about him in the last few days or weeks that you are have been interacting with him online to help you make a judgment on whether he is worth meeting in person.
Remember that there are skeletons in all of our closets.
Unless you discover that a lot of information that he has given you in your conversations with him greatly contradict what you have discovered about him online, it would be best not to spend so much time researching him.
Obsessively doing so could lead to a needless cancellation of a first meeting or a very uncomfortable first meeting.
